About Therapy

Trauma, Stress and Tension

You have the capacity to heal yourself; your system is not broken.

But to really heal means dealing with stress at the deeper level of the nervous system. When we bring more nervous system regulation on board and start to work at this level, the benefits are game changing. When you are able to stay resilient, you can better cope with the situation. When you are recovering from difficult situations, you have a chance to redefine yourself and rebuild your life in a way that feels more authentic.

With a more regulated nervous system we not only feel less stress, we may also see change  in almost every area of our life; physical health improves, well-being grows, and aging becomes more graceful. We have more energy to live our lives, the little stuff and the big stuff, and we gain more energy, focus, presence, and peace of mind.

This can sound too good to be true, but it’s actually how we humans were designed to work.

When we’re drowning in a lot of mental and physical chaos like anxiety, overwhelm or burnout, or are numbed out to our feelings and the present moment, we aren’t truly living, we’re just existing. We’re at the mercy of our survival biology.

Traumatic symptoms are not caused by the event itself. They stem from the frozen residue of energy that has not been resolved and discharged. This residue remains trapped in the nervous system where it can wreak havoc on our bodies and spirits.

There are many potentially traumatizing events that fall into gray areas. Accidents, falls, illnesses, and surgeries that the body unconsciously perceived as threatening, are often not consciously regarded as outside the range of usual human experience. However, they are often traumatizing.

TRE®

TRE® is an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma. The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.

Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises is based on the fundamental idea, backed by research, that stress, tension and trauma is both psychological and physical. TRE®’s reflexive muscle vibrations generally feel pleasant and soothing.  After doing TRE®, many people report feelings of peace and well-being.

TRE® is a body based practice for people suffering from stress, anxiety, trauma or PTSD. It doesn’t require talking about an event, therefore it overcomes the language barriers that can bring up added stress.

You don’t have to have had a specific trauma to benefit from TRE®. Many of us don’t know how or why we react to stress in the way we do and it doesn’t matter. Whether we’re anxious, depressed or overwhelmed, TRE® shows us that our stress thermostat is turned up too high and we can turn down the dial for things to work more easily.

The shaking ability exists in all mammals and humans. It is the body’s most natural way of unravelling contracted or tight stress patterns, as well as reducing the charge of stress hormones and unhealthy chemical build up, bringing the body back into it’s natural balance.

A Sensorimotor approach

An overemphasis on logical, linguistic, step-by-step literal thinking may take our minds away from the important sensorimotor, holistic functions of our non-verbal neural modes of processing. Linking these two very different but important ways of knowing is the essence of creating balance in our lives and in our understanding of complex human experiences such as trauma.

“Understanding is the first step to acceptance, and only with acceptance can there be recovery”
